For anyone who doesn’t know, Oolite is a port of the massively popular Elite, a space trading and combat game originally launched in the 80s.
Oolite is open source and available free of charge from oolite.org and is currently available for Mac, Windows and Linux.
In addition to the core game, there are many expansion packs available in the form of OXPs that you can add on (e.g. Griff Industries). Or make your own. Or mess with the source code.
I love this project, despite the fact that it’s a few years old now.
And you can even run it in strict, wireframe mode for those nostalgic moments.
Get it, play it, and update it while we all look forward to the launch of Elite: Dangerous sometime around March 2014.
